Watch a video about our Faith

If you would like to learn more about Unitarian Universalism, you may enjoy watching our new video.

In "Voices of a Liberal Faith," members and ministers share their thoughts on worship and fellowship, explain the goals of religious education, explore the historic roots of our religion, and celebrate the spirit of social justice that inspires our faith.

On the Mission
Reverend Chip's Weekly Column

Happy May Day! Whether you celebrate by dancing about a maypole, or marching with your fellow workers in a Labor parade, or by burning a bonfire on a nearby hillside, may it bring you joy and inspiration.

May 1st marked the first day of summer for the ancient Celts, who drove their flocks to their summer pastures on that day. They built bonfires on the hillsides, and drove the flocks between the fires to purify them.   continued...

Last weekend, I traveled to Ann Arbor with some very dear friends to hear the Dalai Lama, the spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhism. The University of Michigan's Crisler Arena was sold out, and His Holiness spoke mostly in Tibetan with a translator. Up-coming Services

Sunday, May 18 — ONE SERVICE ONLY at 10:00 AM
(We move to our summer schedule—one service only at 10 AM.)
“Covenant: ‘Cross my Heart...’“
Rev. Chip; Vocal Ensemble; UU Orchestra
Is a covenant different from a promise? Do either have the strength to compel moral action?

New Member Sunday
UUCGT Annual Meeting following the service

Sunday, May 25 — ONE SERVICE ONLY at 10:00 AM
“Returning Veterans”
John Schneider
Veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan need radically different care than veterans of previous wars. What is necessary and how can we help?

Sunday, June 1 — ONE SERVICE ONLY at 10:00 AM
"Native Americans, Treaties and Spirit"
Helen Tanner
Helen Tanner, Senior Research Fellow at Chicago’s Newberry Library, whose Atlas of Great Lakes Indian History has been called “a quantum leap forward in the study and understanding of Indian history,” will speak on “the blessings of balance—an Indian viewpoint.” Dr. Tanner is a recognized authority on Indian treaties and has often testified in cases presented before the Indian Claims Commission. She also serves as a historical consultant in other cases of tribal litigation. It wasn’t until after the Civil War that Northern Michigan Indians began to be affected by increasing numbers of white settlers. Adverse effects of the influx of whites in the mid-1800s and their repercussions exist today. You are invited to remain after the service for a discussion of her topic.
