The 15th installment of Survivor took place
on islands in the huge man-made Zhelin Lake in the ancient Jiangxi
Province in the People’s Republic of China. The series is known for
putting its contestants though significant depravation, intense physical
contests, and devious psychological challenges. At the time of filming
and airing Zernow was 20 years old—his birth date is February 15, 1987.
“Frosti” was a competitive player, making it through to the ninth of
thirteen episodes. After having time to digest on his experiences in China, Zernow reflects “Survivor's such an amazing game. It is a show designed to analyze social structures, how groups are formed, and how people act in very unique situations. This is a very unique situation. I know from experience that doing something like Survivor changes you, it gets your head to a certain place and once it’s there, it’s not coming back.” His parkour and free-running achievements are as notable as his Survivor experience, include touring with Madonna in 2006, acting as a stunt double in the pilot episode of the NBC series Chuck, appearing the Mountain Dew Report, and making numerous appearances at promotional events for Mercedes, Nokia, The New Yorker magazine, Red Bull, K-Swiss shoes, and many more. Zernow will share a multi-media video presentation of selections of some of his more dramatic parkour and free-running achievements. A 2005 graduate of Traverse City Central High School, Zernow was treasurer of the National Honor Society, captain of the track and wrestling teams, going to the State Wrestling Championships both individually and with his team. He was also drama student, starring in several school productions, as well as building sets for several others. Notwithstanding his obvious leadership qualities, he was suspended from high school for a day, after demonstrating his considerable parkour abilities by leaping onto to the high school’s roof dressed as a ninja! One dollar from each ticket to the event will go to Pete’s Place, the youth wing of the Goodwill Inn homeless shelter. Zernow chose the youth homeless shelter, saying, “After the way we lived in China, I am especially conscious of the hardship of homelessness. Everybody should be able to have a roof over their head.” Links: For more information about Survivor:
